Fever!

My Darling Hunter,

40 degree fevers, vomiting, no voice, tears…all of these at the same time will explain just how seriously miserable your weekend was. Needless to say this spills over onto me – you know the saying ‘when Mommy’s unhappy the whole family is unhappy’ – its true! I tested it this weekend.

No matter how many times you get sick I will always be amazed at how you can turn from ‘On top of the world’ one minute to critical the next.

This is how the weekend played out:

Friday:

  • I put you to bed on Friday night a very happy boy and as you closed your eyes you said “Mommy I so cold”, I brushed it off as nothing #parentoftheyear
  • Just a reminder your Dad has just had an op and cant get around much.
  • You woke up in the middle of the night (11.30 pm)smoking hot! Fever 38.5 degrees. Cue tears, thermometers, Calpol.
  • Fever dropped to 37.8 degrees – mommy can rest its going down.
  • Woke up for Kenzie (1:00 pm) had a dream cuddle, I assume she was cold.
  • You woke up at 4:00 am – Fever repeat bullet #3
  • Kenzie woke at 5.00 am to play and eat of course

Saturday:

  • Fever wont break – tears, Calpol repeat. Complaints of a sore mouth, you wont eat or drink anything.
  • Thankfully Kenzie must be going through a growth spurt and decided she would rather sleep than be apart of the hysteria.

  • Just a reminder your Dad has just had an op and cant get around much.
  • 2 pm rush to GP before they close – urine test – nothing wrong with you apparently! Gave antibiotics in case. Relief!
  • 5 pm you feel slightly better still nothing to eat not even a bottle – tears…a lot of them.
  • Melt down because you want Tannie Rie, Millah and Rubi! Call them for a chat – you wont speak to them! Millah and Rubi have a melt down.
  • Fever climbs treat with Calpol, they seem to be climbing higher each time we reached 39.6 degrees before bed time. Complaints of a sore mouth you want a plaster so you can drink.
  • 20141116_185321 20141116_185316
  • You pass out – so do we!
  • Crying, bring you to our bed repeat point 6, go back to your bed. Complaints of a sore mouth, you wont eat or drink anything.
  • Crying, bring you to our bed repeat point 6, go to the lounge pass out on the couch with you. Complaints of a sore mouth, you wont eat or drink anything. Breathing is laboured.
  • Feed Kenzie, Dad moves to the couch.

Sunday:

  • Morning arrives happy Kenzie plays while we deal with the fall out of last night. Oupa is pacing. The rest of the day is much like the day before.
  • 7.00 pm emergency room with Oupa in tow. Your voice is gone you have a cough and a rattle in your chest. They cant find ANYTHING wrong with you. Fever is still 39 degrees.
  • Just a reminder your Dad has just had an op and cant get around much and he is at home with Kenzie, what he would have done if she woke up????
  • Repeat Saturday night with a higher frequency of tears and night feeds for Kenzie.

Monday:

  • Work is out of the question…Gogo doesn’t come to work.
  • Book for Pediatrician – he finds nothing either but increases your meds. Oupa stays in the car with you moaning while I navigate the queue at Dischem, an hour later emerge with a basket of medicine.
  • Sleep!!!!
  • Repeat fever, tears, moaning!
  • Bath put you to bed…you vomit in my hair and all over your bed. Clean the mess – sleep.
  • Rocking Kenzie to sleep, she vomits all over me. Bath her put her to bed, change clothes.
  • You woke at 11 pm, 1.00 am, 2.30 am (asked to go swim because its so hot in here Mommy), your bed, my bed, lounge and back. Repeat.
  • Kenzie dream feed at 3.00 am
  • Just a reminder your Dad has just had an op and cant get around much.
  • Sleep!

Tuesday:

  • Some semblance of the child we know wakes up in our bed. On the mend.

I am completely exhausted but so relieved you are feeling better my little Lion! Love you muchie!
